Bamboo is a popular material for products and interior design, it cuts and engraves very well. It comes in seveal forms, but is used most commonly for lasering as 3 to 5 layer plywood sheets.

There are many types of plywood, but one of the best for lasering is known as "baltic birch" plywood. It has high quality, hole-free layers of hardwood and is stronger than common construction plywood.

Whether for coaster bottoms, bulletin boards or art projects, cork is a beautiful material when cut or engraved. It produces dark, high contrast engravings, but cannot hold fine details well.

One of the most affordable laserable materials, thin MDF cuts well, is wonderful for painting on, and engraves dark and high contrast.

Almost any species of wood can be layered as a veneer on top of an MDF or Plywood core. Common species including oak, maple and cherry are available locally, others can be special ordered.
